Things that make you go hmmmm

First off, I'm not your usual conspiracy theorist. I normally feel that there's a plausible explanation for things - even if I'm unable to see it at the moment. I like to give people/things the benefit of the doubt. HOWEVER, with the things I've been seeing online and in the news lately have me a bit concerned. I want to share something with you all. The is a documentary that a friend sent to me in an email. It's about 1 hour and 20 min. long. I know, I know, you think that is to long for you to sit and watch, but trust me it's worth it. From what I've seen so far, they make some interesting points. I don't, however, agree with all their theories. It DOES make you think though. Click Here to Watch

Gas vs Oil

Ok, so this is probably going to be boring to 99.5% of you but for the .5% that are educated and informed or who wish to be, let me answer all the questions as Shawn solves the world's (or at least the US's) problems.
First of all, all you kids who think that boycotting the gas stations on one specific day is going to hurt the gas companies and not yourself, than you're a fool. Gas companies aren't stupid, they know that whatever money they don't make on May 15 or whatever day is going around myspace bulletins, then they'll make all that money up ten-fold on May 16. Think about it, it's not rocket science. Gas companies know that people basically cannot survive without gas and will not hurt themselves by not getting to go places just to "teach" those big ol' gas companies a lesson.
Which brings me to my next point, gas companies really don't have that much to do with gas prices. They buy the crude oil, ship it to refineries (using gas to ship oil...that's not at all cost effective), refine the oil (turning crude oil into what you put in your cars), then ship it to the gas stations. By the time this process is done, the gas companies are looking at about a 9% profit gain which really isn't that much considering, so despite what the newspapers and TV tells you, they aren't robbing you. However, these billion dollar companies are making some money, after all that is the name of the game.
So who is responsible? It has alot more to do with the government, and not just the US government all you Bush-bashers. A LOT of the oil we use in the US comes from the Middle East (not where most of it is located might I add) and look at the government over there, it's not it good standing right now is it? And it never has been. Sure at times it's been a little less crazy than it is now but there will not be peace there anytime soon. AND just to add, if you're a Bible believing Christian than you know that when there is peace in the Middle East that means it's the end of times, you know the Tribulation?
Anyway, we also get gas from Nicaragua. At the current time, rebels are threatening to overthrow the government so its not exactly stable there right now thus higher gas prices here on the homefront. Whenever things cool down there, then gas prices will probably slightly drop.
SO WHAT CAN BE DONE? Apparently, there is enough oil in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico to put the Middle East to shame. All we'd have to do is drill in ANWR, Alaska which would take up about 1/10 of 1% of the land in Alaska, about the size of Jacksonville, only drill in the winter, and then pipeline it down. Did I mention that all of this is environmentally safe? The pipeline that is there now serves as a safe haven for animals during the winter STUPID EVIRONMENTALISTS, TAKE THAT. Anyway, so we drill in Alaska pump it down and not only are we becoming self-sufficient with oil over time, but we would be bringing billions of dollars to every state in the Union. There is already some drilling going on in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and it has brought over $50 billion to the US. There is also some oil fields up in the Mid West but in order to effectively use this gas a pipeline needs to be set up in the continental US to pump the oil to the refineries. Which brings me to another gas cost cutting idea, a refinery needs to be built. There hasn't been a refinery built in the US in 30 years and 100 or so are still damaged from Hurricane Katrina. So why isn't any of this being done? Because everyone screams not in my backyard.
Closer to home, the Gulf. Jeb Bush doesn't want any drilling off the coast of Florida though it would assuredly bring in more money than we could handle. People don't want see the oil rigs nor do they want to risk an oil spill. With technology the way it is, I'm sure an oil spill wouldn't be that big of a threat even it happened just have teams ready to clean that crap up ASAP. Another thing, if environmentalists are so worried about the environment they should know that oil leaks out of the ocean floor near the equator...go worry about that. This will also tickle you, Fidel Castro is about to start drilling for oil 35 miles off the coast of Key West in international water meaning he'll be getting the money that should go to the US since we're closer but we all know that an oppressive dictator should get that money...
SO why doesn't the US stop lining the pockets of terrorist ridden (Middle East), unstable (Nicaragua) governments and start the process of relying on our resources? If you're still interested in this at this point, I should point out that the United States also has more coal and natural gas than pretty much anyone in the world. But we still continue to buy it from other corrupt nations. We have tons of cubic feet of natural gas which if you're not aware of what that means, it means that we could research alternative fuel sources. Why don't we do it? It's not "economically feasible" right now. When will it be? When gas prices hit $9.00 a gallon? Well that's looking like the end of summer...
So WHY hasn't ANY of this been done? Because Republicans don't have a big enough majority in Congress, and Democrats didn't come up with the idea so they hate it. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OF THE UNITED STATES INSTEAD OF THE GOOD OF PARTIES? Actually, I just heard that a bill has been passed in the Senate to start drilling in ANWR, it just has to be passed in the House, and that shouldn't be a problem. It will still be a waiting game though.
I hope I enlightened you. Presidential election of 2008 topics: 1)oil prices 2)immigration
